I can haz free cat books?

I can haz free cat books?

I’m switching out stuff from Dropbox to Google Drive. The eight wallpapers I posted earlier have a new home, and all the free ebooks, cats and landscapes are also there.

The 100 cats (nearly 150 cats only $0.99!) ebook is still at iTunes, along with the also free ebook, 20 Monsters.

The medium size…

October 9, 2012

The medium sized 22 cats book measures roughly 6 by 8 inches, or 15 by 20 cm. It contains the same 22 images as the small 22 cats book which I distributed as a promotion piece. You can download a free PDF of the small book. The medium sized 22 cats book available from me is $25.00 including shipping and handling. There are only ten of them – a few strategically distributed at finer Über Cool shops everywhere.

The 22 cats book features a selection of images from the ebook series 100 catsavailable on the iTunes bookstore.

What a fast turnaround! I thought I would have some time to set up a page for the book before then.

100 insane cats

August 18, 2012

Well, that was a bit of an insane run. My 100 cats drawing project ran out of steam at around 80 pictures, and I decided, WTH, put ‘em all up here and see what happens.

It pushed me over the hump, I think, along with getting a bit more proper sleep. Though only eighty or so have been put up, there are a few more than 100 in the ebook, and some that haven’t been seen here. It hasn’t been properly finished yet, and so hasn’t been submitted. I hope I don’t run onto some obtuse objection to it, like with the Ocean Views booklet. It was a distraction, too, to try and meet the unclear criticisms of that submission.

Anyway.

Naught to do but wait, at this point. My paid books account waits for approval. I hope to put up 100 cats for 99¢. Stay tuned cat fans. And huge thanks for all the likes, especially for the ones I thought were a bit unusual.

There will be a number of promo codes available. I’d like to distribute a few. How should I decide?

The Horse’s Mouth

August 16, 2012

I saw The Horses Mouth as a movie in my senior year of high school. I had read the novel, given as a gift by my cousin, a corrupting and influential gift, while I was in public school. There was much I didn’t understand then.

And those are indeed, magnificent feet.

Crackle presents the movie, streaming, as an option. You must download Crackle for your iPad, if you watch only this movie.

The 100 cats project

June 3, 2012

If you’ve been following the tags, you’ve seen the tag for 100 cats. The 100 cats project is me deciding to draw 100 cat drawings on my iPad, and putting together an ebook collection of those images. So far, I have drawn more than 80. Some have been edited out of the collection to bring the current number down to 80. Only 17 of those have been posted here, and some of those have been drawings in progress. Some have been edited out as duplicates or variations. I thought I might post every third drawing or so. I’ll likely put up a few more of the older ones, then, to bring up that number. I want the book to have a large number of unseen, fresh images for the viewer. I expect a sample of the book would come out at about 20 images, too, as that seems what most samples from the iTunes bookstore feature. They may not be the same set of images.

One worry is response from the iTunes bookstore approval staff. Ocean Views is held up over length and interactivity issues that I have no idea how to address. Will 100 images that don’t move, or something, be acceptable anymore?

I don’t have an ITIN from the IRS either. I had hoped to price the book at .99 and this, at this point hinges on a letter from Apple, and with deadlines looming, likely a re-submission of the application.

I’m not a US citizen, so why not go through an aggregator? Because I would have to go about producing an 100+ page PDF file-as it would all be images-and they don’t process PDF files. iBooks Author is so easy and so suitable to this kind of collection: the images flow into my photostream, fall into iPhoto, sort into the 100 cats folder, and load into a widget in my iBooks Author template. Verify and send directly. Await approval. Too easy, perhaps.

iBooks Author is perfect for publishing chapbook collections of images, or poems or whatever, built around a theme.

Ocean Views eBook

April 19, 2012

The Ocean Views eBook can be downloaded directly from here.

It seems to be stalled stubbornly under review, so may not be available through the iTunes book store. Once you have the download completed, drag the file onto iTunes, then sync your iPad. If you are viewing this post from an iPad, it will download directly.

The objection—repeated boilerplate—from review staff is that:

“Books must be of sufficient length or functionality. We encourage you to review your book concept and evaluate whether you can incorporate functionality, content, or both to enhance the user experience.”

Should any of you choose to download and look through this eBook, I would appreciate any feedback on what I could do to meet the guidelines.

UPDATE April 20 7 pm. As CaptnKrunch pointed out in the Apple discussion forums, the book was displaying basically nothing when the iPad was turned to portrait mode. The link above goes to the presumably correct version. I have uploaded a corrected version to the iTunes store, and, well, we’ll see in about a week.

Aside from that, the boilerplate error message is quite non-helpful. Kind of like saying, “There’s a crooked blade of grass in that baseball field over there. Do you have a bulldozer?”

Update April 23 10:25 PM Yes, that was the problem. Book should be in the stores any time now.

Hey, I’m #68!

March 2, 2012

Okay… it’s a special, obscure category. Arts and Architecture. Not even in the pop-up menu in iTunes. Of 184 top free books in Art and Architecture. Number 68 and number 88 in top free books in Art and Architecture. But they are there. Way cool. And they are complete books, not samples.
